Oasis Guitarist Paul Arthurs Will Skip Concert Series for Cancer Treatment
The musician Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has announced he will be absent from a leg of his band’s reunion tour as he receives treatment for prostate cancer.
Tour Dates Affected
Arthurs, 60, a original member of the band, announced he will not be performing at the upcoming shows in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney.
The Seoul concert is scheduled for 21 October, with subsequent dates in Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.
Statement on His Condition
In a social media post, he disclosed that he was diagnosed prostate cancer earlier this year and is reacting positively to treatment.
“Early this year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The positive aspect is I’m responding really well to treatment, which allowed me to take part in this incredible tour.
“Now, I am needing to take a scheduled pause for the subsequent stage of my care, so I’ll be unable to attend the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m very disappointed to be missing these shows but I’m doing well and will be returning prepared in time for the South American leg.”
Previous Health Challenge
This marks his first medical challenge. In 2022, Arthurs disclosed he had been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer diagnosis.
At that time, he wrote: “Just to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from playing for a while. I have been found to have tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s manageable and I will be starting a treatment plan soon.”
Career Highlights
Arthurs played in the band The Rain with Liam Gallagher in the start of the 90s before they recruited the frontman’s sibling, Noel, who later insisted they adopt a new name.
He featured on three records with the band, including the landmark Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before leaving in 1999 during the production of the fourth album, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.
Arthurs subsequently became part of Liam Gallagher’s band temporarily and has often performed live with Liam during his individual projects, most recently at the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2021.
He also formed the group his own band and served as a broadcast presenter after his period in the band.
